This tutorial will show you how to Enable and Disable Write Permissions for your website from the Control Panel.
We run Window Servers and do not support the CHMOD command via FTP.
As a security best practice, and to prevent your website from getting hacked, you should never leave any files or folders writeable unless it is absolutely necessary.
However, there will be times that you will need to update your web application (Wordpress, Joomla, etc.), or install and update plugins and themes.
At those times, we recommend temporarily enabling write permissions by following the steps below.
Enable Write Permissions
Step 1: Under Web & Applications select Web Sites
Step 2: Click on your domain name
Step 3: Under Security Settings, check the Enable Write Permissions box
Step 4: Click Save Changes and Exit
You can now write files to your web site.
When you are finished updating your website, be sure to disable write permissions.
Disable Write Permissions
Step 5: Under Web & Applications select Web Sites
Step 6: Click on your domain name
Step 7: Under Security Settings, uncheck the Enable Write Permissions box
Step 4: Click Save Changes and Exit
This will disable write permissions and will block hackers from putting malicious files onto your site to take it over.
