This tutorial will show you how to create a Mail Alias / Mail Forwarding Email Address.
A Mail Alias is a one-to-one auto-forward of one email address to another email address. If you want auto-forward to more than one user, this can be done with the Create a Mail Group tutorial. Please be aware that mail aliases are restricted to internal users only: forwarding within the same domain name, to the other email addresses or aliases on your account.
In this example, we want emails sent to info@youremailaccount.com to be forwarded to ssmith@youremailaccount.com
Step 1: Click on Add Alias
Step 2: Complete the Add User Alias page
a) Alias Name
Type the first part of the email address you want to create (the part that comes before the @ symbol).
b) Display Name
This will be shown on outgoing emails and in your contacts.
c) Forwards to email address
Type the email address that you want to auto-forward to. You can only enter one email address, the email address must be within your domain name. We do not allow auto forwarding to an email address outside our system (e.g. gmail.com, yahoo.com, etc.), as this would be a HIPAA violation.
d) Alias can be used as a from address in webmail
Susan can select this email address as the "from" address in webmail. For example, she can choose to have the email be sent from info@youremailaccount.com instead of ssmith@youremailaccount.com.
e) Internal User Only
This address will only be available internally to your users. If someone from the outside world sends an email to this address, it will bounce.
f) Show in Global Address List
This address will show in your Global Address List in Contacts. If you do not want this address to be visible in the GAL, uncheck this box.
